When the same ten words are on repeat

“You’re asking to reap what you’re not willing to sow.”

Those ten words have been on repeat in my brain for the last month and to be honest they’re not the most pleasant things to hear in the moment. (and they don’t really make for a cute instagram of your journal and a coffee cup…)

You know when you have those seasons of perspective? When the lens zooms out and you’re able to see your past differently than you have before? That’s where I’m at and where I keep hearing the Lord say, “You’re asking to reap what you’re not willing to sow.”

But here’s the great thing about those words. He’s saying them to me because I’m capable, equipped, and ready to sow. He only asks what we’re able to do; and when he asks for more it’s because he has more for us.

“More” isn’t usually handed to us on a gold platter; it usually involves risk(which is illogical and scary), trust (even when it’s not necessarily deserved) and selfless giving (when you feel like you don’t have anything to give).

It’s telling a guy that you’re interested to hear that he’s not
It’s choosing to encourage people when you don’t know if they want to hear it
It’s admitting and owning up to failure
It’s putting yourself out there when you’re not sure how it’s going to turn out
It’s coaching 14 year olds only to discover you’re coaching way more than just volleyball
It’s asking for financial support and not seeing any come in
It’s choosing to seek counseling and saying no to shame
It’s about not being defeated by disappointment or perceived failure

It’s all about choice.

My big prayer is that the Lord keeps telling me those ten words until I say yes to all that he’s asking. I pray that he would stay steady when I’m all over the place. I pray that he would never stop wanting more for me–especially when I don’t find myself wanting to give more.
I pray these things because he’s worth it. I pray these things because I know that his best is better than my best.

This is why I choose Him. This is why I’m working at Adventures in Missions. This is why I risk and say yes to things that don’t make sense only to get to experience things I never thought possible. This is why He’s always going to be the one that I choose.
